It is important to understand what impact a patient's disability has on their work capability. Also, patients will normally have a good idea of what adjustments could help them. Remember though, it is for the employer to take a view on whether it would be reasonable to implement the adjustments.

  • What does your job currently involve? What tasks do you perform and under what conditions (e.g. demanding targets, short timescales)?
  • In what way does your health or disability affect your ability to work?
  • What aspects of your work do you find difficult?
  • Which tasks can you still undertake?
  • What would help you to work?
  • What are the main obstacles to you working?
  • Does your employer have access to occupational health advice?
